DISPATCH #4, April 15, Approach Shortly after noon Nils came into the dirty gambling hall which was supposed to be an internet cafe. He told Hannes, who was emailing pictures to Germany, to stop what he was doing and to run back to the hotel. The road to Tingri was re-opened after heavy snowfall. Finally!

So we hurried back to the hotel and to our jeep to start on our way up to Tingri (4300m). The ride was stunning from beginning to end. We moved through steep snowy flanks of the main Himalayan range with a beautiful blue and cloudy sky above your heads up a windy 5150m high pass from where we slowly descended into the dry Tibetan landscape. It was just fantastic. The first part of our shared dream to experience Tibet coming true right then and there. What a great place to be!

In the afternoon we arrived at our destination Tingri, the last village before Mt. Everest. It is a place well known by every mountaineer from the early 20th century expeditions and our home for us that night. After moving into a hotel a bit outside from the town center, Hannes went quickly to bed not feeling too well. Luckily he recoverd quickly and this morning Nils and Hannes both went for an acclimatization hike with Alix, Luis, Alex and Dominik. We climbed up to 4700m and everyone felt pretty good.

Unfortunately the weather was not ideal for filming or taking pictures. There was simply too much moisture in the air and the Himalayan main ridge was covered by rain and clouds. In the evening the Ñbig oneì (Mt. Everest) showed her face for a very short time. Seeing Everest for the first time this trip was that kind of a feeling only the power of nature can provide. And tomorrow we will finally pitch our tents in front of her feet!

Expedition will not be continued

DISPATCH #9 April 27,  Base Camp at 5150m
This morning Alix von Melle and Luis Stitzinger, Alexander Brutscher (BR) as well as Nils Peuse and Hannes Künkel (Third Pole) decided to cancel their Everest 2015 expedition in light of the tragic events that have occurred and are still occurring on Mt. Everest and in Nepal.

Earth quake in Nepal

DISPATCH #8 April 25,  Base Camp at 5150m
As we were waiting for lunch at around 12am the Himalaya was hit by a massive earthquake. The earth was shaking heavily for at least 30 seconds followed by rockfall from the debris flanks.

Into the ice of Everest

DISPATCH #7 April 22,  Base Camp at 5150m
We left Base Camp for the first time to hike up to an intermediate Camp at 5750m. We followed the glacier tongue of Rongbuk glacier before climbing up into the right tributary of the Eastern Rongbuk glacier which will lead us up to the North Col (7050m).

Adapting to high altitude

DISPATCH #6 April 21,  Base Camp at 5150m
When we got out of the bus three days ago our single tents had been already pitched by the Sherpa crew so we only had to pitch our production tent. What sounds easy is really hard work when you are not acclimatized and by now we definitely are not.
